Time Commitment & Participation Expectations
Typical weekly time expectations and practical guidance for staying on track.
Overview
The Integrative Nurse Coach® Certificate Program (INCCP) is designed to support deep, meaningful learning while honoring that nurses are busy professionals. This article outlines the expected time commitment and participation expectations so you can make an informed and realistic decision before enrolling. A Balanced but Intentional Time Commitment INCCP is a comprehensive, cohort-based program that unfolds over time. Rather than requiring constant availability, the program is structured to support steady engagement, reflection, and integration. Most participants balance INCCP alongside work and personal responsibilities by planning for regular, protected learning time each week. Estimated Weekly Time Commitment While individual experiences vary, most participants can expect the following average time commitment: Foundations: approximately 5–6 hours per week Practicum: approximately 6–7 hours per week This time includes engagement with course materials, participation in required activities, and integration of learning into practice. What That Time Typically Includes Each program phase includes a mix of asynchronous and live learning: Pre-recorded lectures and learning modules completed on your own schedule Assigned readings, reflections, or discussion forum participation Live mentorship (supervision) group meetings Peer coaching or client coaching activities, depending on program phase Most of the weekly time commitment can be completed flexibly within the week. Live sessions occur at scheduled times and are a required part of the program. Level 1 Foundations During Foundations, learning is structured to support skill-building, self-awareness, and integration: Weekly online modules completed asynchronously Live mentorship group meetings (7 meetings, 2 hours each) Structured peer coaching sessions with another nurse in the program Peer coaching sessions are scheduled by participants using the learning platform, allowing flexibility within the program’s guidelines. Level 2 Practicum The Practicum phase emphasizes real-world application and supervised practice. Learning modules released at defined intervals Live mentorship group meetings at regular intervals for deeper supervision Time spent coaching clients, scheduled based on your availability Client coaching may take place in person, by phone, or via secure web-based platforms. Live Participation Expectations Live participation is a required and essential component of INCCP. This includes: Attendance at scheduled mentorship group meetings Participation in peer coaching sessions, as assigned by program phase These live experiences are where skills are practiced, questions are explored, and learning is integrated in relationship with others. Flexibility and Attendance INCA understands that life happens. When unexpected circumstances prevent live attendance, mentorships sessions are typically recorded. To receive credit for a missed live session, participants are expected to: Notify their Faculty Mentor before missing the meeting View the session recording in a timely manner Complete any required follow-up reflections or assignments Live participation remains a core requirement of INCCP, and consistent attendance supports both individual learning and group integrity. If you miss more than one live session, you may have to re-enroll in the course. What We Mean by “Participation” Participation in INCCP does not mean being an expert or having everything figured out. It does mean: Showing up to live sessions prepared and present Engaging respectfully and professionally with peers and faculty Completing required components within designated timeframes Being open to reflection, feedback, and growth INCCP is designed to be a learning environment—not a performance environment. Planning for Success Participants who feel most supported in the program often: Plan for 5–7 hours per week of protected learning time Add live meeting times to their calendars early Engage consistently rather than trying to catch up Read and follow program communications closely Approaching the program with intention and realistic planning helps ensure a meaningful and sustainable experience.
