The Integrative Nurse Coach Academy is leading the way in recognition for nurse coaches by lobbying for CPT codes to bill insurance.
A category 3 CPT Code was approved by the AMA for Health & Wellness Coaching. While Category 3 CPT codes are not necessarily being reimbursed at this time, using the codes is a way to track the volume and outcomes of Nurse Coaching to lobby for Category 1, reimbursable CPT codes in future.
We plan to reapply for a Category 1 code that will be reimbursable. It should be noted that there are pros and cons of billing insurance for coaching services--which we cover in our program. In addition, we will provide our students with instructions on the process for insurance submission when available.
